DESCRIPTION:We are proud to announce the Kickoff  program (on Zoom) for the Lower Merion/Narberth Pollinator Pathway.  This project is established in over 90 towns throughout New York and Connecticut. Lower Merion and Narberth will be the first towns to join in Pennsylvania\, and  West Mill Creek Park is a founding participant! \nDog park member and naturalist Michelle Detwiler\, will begin the program by explaining how each of us can add our own yard or garden to the pathway; then\, Pat Sutton\, a passionate conservation gardening educator and author\, will present “How to Create a Pollinator Garden for Butterflies\, Hummingbirds\, Moths and More!” Pat will talk with us about creative ways for planting and maintaining a garden that will attract and benefit the pollinators that are so essential to life on earth. \nTo attend please register on the  Lower Merion Conservancy website for the  FREE Pollinator Pathways Kickoff Event.

SUMMARY:Dog Memorial Log/Howl-o-Ween: Two Events on One Day!
DESCRIPTION:At 2 pm on Sunday\, October 28\, we will inaugurate our new Friends of West Mill Creek Park Dog Memorial Log.  This log\, the fallen cherry tree near the park entrance\, is an especially fitting memorial log  to our departed canine park regulars — though the tree fell several years ago\, it still puts out green shoots each Spring.  We invite our members to place a departed dog’s I.D. tag on the log using the nails provided.  If you can’t make it on the 28th\, you can still add your dog’s memorial tag any time. \nFollowing the Dog Memorial Log inauguration\, we will host a Howl-o-Ween parade.  Bring your dog in costume for a fun photo opportunity of your dog and his or her friends!  Every dog in costume gets a Howloween treat\, and if he or she does a trick\, an extra treat and maybe a chance for YouTube stardom! \n

DESCRIPTION:Our Annual Meeting will begin with a short report on events and accomplishments  in 2017 and plans for 2018.  Next\, Tom Brightman\, Land Stewardship Manager for Longwood Gardens\, will give a talk on West Mill Creek Park: an Ecological Perspective.   Tom grew up in the area and spent a lot of time at West Mill Creek Park as a boy.  He will discuss the history and current state of the the Mill Creek watershed and explain why riparian buffers and woodland corridors benefit both humans and wildlife.  He will also discuss stewardship techniques to keep our park healthy while blending human\, canine\, and ecological needs in the landscape.

SUMMARY:Santa Paws Comes to the Park
DESCRIPTION:Once again this year\, Santa Paws will come to our park!  Bring your dog for a photo with Santa.  Santa will give your dog a biscuit while you enjoy some hot cocoa.  This is a fundraiser for pets who lost their homes during the recent hurricanes\, so 100% of  donations collected at this event will go to this worthy cause.

DESCRIPTION:We invite all members to help plant bog-loving shrubs in the low lying area of the park known to many of us as “The Lake”.  If these plants take hold and grow\, they will add beauty and wildlife value to the park and keep muddy paws to a minimum at the same time.  And if you can’t participate in the work day\, just send encouraging thoughts toward our new plantings\, and keep your dog from trampling them if at all possible. SUMMARY:Garden Work Day\, First of the Season
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be planting new flowering plants\, and (of course) weeding the Wildlife and Respite Garden to prepare it for garden season.  We’ll also work on other garden chores such as removing landscape fabric that is no longer needed and renewing the wood chips on our wood chip path.  Water and the traditional Kind Bars (or their Trader Joe equivalent) will be provided.  Come and go as you please\, and do bring garden gloves and your favorite weeding tool if you have one.  We have extra gloves and tools so we can supply these items if you don’t bring them.
